Big Tourney Main Event Winner

Well, the results are in and we have our first-ever winner of the Big Tourney Main Event… and it’s Steve VanWyhe (joker_49024). His 188 fantasy points were 11 better than the next closest opponent, the Rochester Rams and he takes home a check for $10,000 as our grand champion. Not only that, but Steve was fortunate enough to have THREE teams in the Main Event and pocketed an additional $1,500 for his fifth and ninth place finishes — for a grand total of $11,500 — JUST FOR PLAYING FANTASY FOOTBALL!!

The LIVE DRAFT (both in-person and online) featured 10 finalists and the draft order was determined by the total points scored in the first three rounds of the Main Event. Steve’s championship team drafted in the three-hole and his roster consisted of:

Kurt Warner — 25 points
Kyle Orton — 26 points
Steve Slaton — 21 points
Jonathan Stewart — 11 points
Tashard Choice — 6 points
Marques Colston — 25 points
Braylon Edwards — 1 point
Deion Branch — 27 points
Steve Breaston — 20 points
Greg Olsen — 13 points
Anthony Fasano — 12 points
Matt Prater — 1 point

Steve surprised everyone by taking a WR (Marques Colston) with the third overall pick, and followed that up by taking Steve Slaton, Kurt Warner, Steve Breaston and Tashard Choice. What may have sealed the deal for "the joker" was his last-round pick… QB Kyle Orton. Orton’s 26 points were a team-high for Steve and it was either a stab in the dark or a stroke of genius. Either way, great job Steve. Congratulations.

I’d also like to say a special thanks to everyone who participated in all our Satellite and Instant Cash leagues throughout the year, including our 10 finalists for the Main Event. Our goal now is to up the stakes… that’s right, we want to offer more prize money next year. So your job from now until then is to spread the word to as many of your friends (or enemies) as you possibly can. Hopefully we’ll be able to offer up a $120,000 grand prize in 2009 — but we need over 2000 players to make it happen, so let’s start planning now.

Here’s hoping you all have a Happy New Year and that you stick to your resolutions.
