I’m not as surprised that Gabbert went #10 overall to Jacksonville as I am that Jake Locker went ahead of him. The Jags smelled blood when they saw Gabbert fall that far, and traded up from #16 to #10 to ensure they locked up their franchise QB.

Had Jake Locker come out after the 2009 college football season, draft experts believe he might have been the #1 overall pick… ahead of Sam Bradford. However, he opted to return to Washington in an attempt to lead them to a bowl game.

The Panthers debated this pick for quite some time, but in the end they felt like Newton had the most upside and would fit very well in their modified offense. HC Ron Rivera said he met with Newton five times leading up to the draft, and ultimately felt like they were making the best decision for their franchise.

Bryant has nice size and build teams want from a receiver. He has good hands and has shown the ability to give his quarterback a window to throw. He’s dominant on jump balls and excels at getting off the line of scrimmage.

McCoy is a very athletic quarterback, who has shown he will run with the ball if he has to. He’s accurate with short and deep throws and gets rid of the football quickly. He should do well in Combine interviews with his leadership ability and character.

Strengths: Spiller has solid bulk and is extremely fast, often showing gamebreaking ability. An instinctive back, he shows the patients to wait for his blocks to be set up. Despite his size, Spiller has the ability to break many tackles. With soft hands and route-running ability, he could slip into a role as a change-of-pace back quickly.
