Week 1 is here…finally.
The time to overanalyze your lineups and agonize over your starting lineup on a weekly basis, is back. Here are some quick injury updates as you prepare your starting lineup:
-Jonathan Vilma is listed as probable for Thursday’s game against the Vikings. He won’t leave the field and should be considered a top 10 LB in most IDP formats
-Jairus Byrd has been practicing but still isn’t in game shape. He’s not a lock to start week 1 nor is a lock to play. As of now, Donte Whitner and George Wilson are the starting safeties in week 1
Update: Jairus Byrd practiced today and coach Gailey is now optimistic that he’ll suit up for week 1. If Byrd plays, downgrade Wilson as Byrd will probably get the start.
-Trent Cole was not listed on the Eagles’ injury report, which is a great sign. Cole is considered a DE1 and should be in starting lineups for week 1
-Aaron Kampmann is not listed on the Jaguars injury report. It might be worth it to sit him this week, just to see how he moves after the ACL surgery. He should produce fairly well this season now that he’s back as a 4-3 end.
-Gary Brackett was not listed on the Colts’ injury report. Brackett injured his hand during the pre-season but the x-rays were negative. Brackett owners will want to have Pat Angerer on their watch lists but, as of now, he’s an every week IDP starter
-Shawne Merriman has been practicing on a limited basis and is not a guarantee to play on Monday night
-Not really injury related, but Trevor Scott has over-taken Matt Shaugnessy as starter on the right side. Scott was replaced by Quentin Groves as weak-side linebacker so, Scott’s move makes him an IDP sleeper as he has the upside to register double-digit sacks
-Kenny Phillips is starting the week 1 opener at strong safety and should play the majority of the snaps. He’s considered a DB2 this week
-Tyler Brayton practiced this past week after suffering an ankle injury in the pre-season opener and is expected to start week 1, opposite Charles Johnson
-D’qwell Jackson is confirmed out for week 1, but could return by week 3. If you got him at a discount in your draft, hang on to him. He could be back sooner rather then later
-DeAndre Levy is now considered doubtful for week 1′s tilt with the Chicago Bears. Tough blow to his owners, especially for those that drafted him as an LB1. Landon Johnsonwould fill in at MIKE for Levy in week 1
-Channing Crowder has been downgraded to out for week 1 against the Bills. It’s not a leg or foot injury, but a groin/hip/abdominal triple debacle that wasn’t taken seriously. He’s also a candiate to miss multiple weeks, so at his point, IDP owners can’t count on him. Tim Dobbins and Bobby Carpenter look to gain from Crowder’s misfortune.
-Williams Hayes aggravated his knee during practice and is questionable for week 1. I suggest leaving him on the bench this week and not worry about the rotation that is likely to take place between David Ball, Jason Babin and possibly Derrick Morgan. Avoid the Tennessee defensive linemen this week.
