I told you so.
The topic of Jake Delhomme first came up in an interview session with my dear friend Chris Bopst in July:
“Do you think Jake Delhomme can resurrect his confidence and career after that dreadful showing against the Cardinals last year in the playoffs? I was thinking he was toast, and was amazed the Panthers decided to sign him to a 5 year mega deal. To me, it was a very bad business move. Daniel Snyder-esque.”
Then in August, I continued to pick the poor guy apart:
“Personally I think Panthers’ QB Jake Delhomme is done. He has been an overachiever for years but the jig is up.”
Despite carrying that feeling into this season, even I was shocked at the equally abysmal performance laid down by Jake today.73 yards on 7 of 17 passing with 4 INTs.
Adding insult to the ineptitude was being yanked by coach John Fox in the 3rd quarter. Dude just signed a 5-year extension worth $42.5 million, with a $20 million guarantee, you don’t get yanked easily with that kind of investment, especially in the season opener.
Steve Smith said after the game today, “Offensively, we just sucked. Let’s be honest.”
Let’s be honest, this is what it means to Fantasy ballers. Steve Smith, DeAngelo Williams and anyone else that plays for the Carolina Offense just got downgraded.
