Jared Cook, inactive this game stud the next?

I have enjoyed Mike Sando’s ESPN NFC West Blog for years, and signed up for his Gridiron Challenge. I thought I was pretty clever choosing Jared Cook as my bargain basement Tight End. He was after all second in the NFL preseason in receptions, and all of the Titans QBs seem to enjoy throwing to him. This is a guy who in college was compared to Calvin Johnson by coach Spurrier at South Carolina, and in fact arrived on campus as a WR before bulking up, yet ran a 4.5 40 yard time at the NFL Combine. Depth chart be damned, clearly the Titans plan on utilizing him to stretch the field, I thought. He is not a TE, he is a weapon.

Game time. Click on TV. Sideline reporter says Cook is inactive for the game, what? Brilliant. Game 1 of Week 1 and my first Fantasy blunder? Pause. Click PC. ‘Cook is seen wearing walking boot after Cleveland game’, huh? I still don’t know much other than he turned his ankle and the team is down playing the injury.

Bo Scaife sure is having a great game, I thought. Maybe they don’t really need Cook yet. Maybe he won’t make an impact at all this year and all this hype is fool’s gold, another Fantasy mirage.

Bam, Scaife takes a hit from the fierce James Harrison, leaves game with what they are calling a sprained knee. Obviously it is too early to tell how severe the injury is but it is quite possible Jared Cook might go from inactive this game to a stud the next.
