Mike Woellert’s NFL Draft Blog LIVE!

04/22/2010 8:01 AM -

Well, the NFL Draft is here. It’s one of the few days of the year that lives up to the anxiety and excitement like Christmas morning. This and the day/night of your fantasy draft. I will be in the chat with Greg Brosh tonight discussing and commenting on the picks and will be providing my own thoughts of the picks, as well. Make fantasyfootball.com your NFL draft destination tonight and tomorrow for our 1st round recap on 2 Feet in Bounds.

Update 6:30PM

Smokescreens abound. Rumors of the Redskins interest in Eric Berry might be causing the Browns to want to move up for the playmaking safety. Barring any last minute surprises, Sam Bradford should probably be a Ram. The Steelers, more than likely, will have Ben Roethlisberger in tow for 2010. Check back for updates as the draft kicks off in less than an hour…..

Update 7:15
Looks like they are introducing some past draftees and Hall of Famers. Good to see Joe Montana. Also introducing the draftees that are in attendance.

Update 7:25
Enough of the mock drafts so let’s get this thing kicked off! With the 1st pick of the draft, the St. Louis Rams select…..

Update 7:40
Looks as if though the Rams, and looking at the Rams war room video, Sam Bradford will be the #1 pick. Not surprising as the Rams need a franchise QB. Let’s see if they can get him a WR to throw to and an offensive linemen to help protect him.

Update 7:45
Looks like Ndamukong Suh is the Lions pick. He’s going to be a nice fit and he’ll be ready to work. I like his presence on the line and Kyle Vanden Bosch will provide some strong leadership. The Lions defense just got a bit better and will give much needed help against the run.

Update 7:50
This draft is moving fast and furious. Gerald McCoy is on the phone with TB and he’s going to fill a huge need for the Bucs defense and is 1b to Suh in terms of best defensive linemen available. He has great size and vision and should be able to dominate right away, IMO.

Update 7:53
Here’s where things could get interesting in terms of trades and movement around within the 4th through 7th overall picks. A lot of teams bluffing trying to get an extra pick. Major games of chicken right now, so we’ll see if someone moves.

8:02
Okay, I’m removing update, because it’s an obvious update :-)

As a Browns fan, I’m sweatin’ this pick. I really hope the Chiefs trade down or go with Russell Okung or Bryan Bulaga.

8:15
Well, I’ve stopped the banging of my head against my desk with the Berry pick to the Chiefs. KC gets a huge playmaker though and someone that will help that defense immediately. Seattle should feel very fortunate that Russell Okung fell to them and they get a franchise left tackle for the next decade.

8:30
I like the McLain pick for the Raiders but, if he’s gonna play the MLB spot, what’s going to happen to Kirk Morrison? Now the Bills are on the clock and they grabbed CJ Spiller???? They’ve got Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson. This looks to be reminiscent of Miami in 2007. They need a QB but go with a playmaker. CJ Spiller is definitely one of the best on the board, but, IMO, they needed a QB. With this pick, this definitely hurts CJ Spiller’s stock in fantasy drafts coming up as he would’ve been one of the top rookies taken.

9:06
Seattle so far has had a very nice draft with Okung and Earl Thomas. He’s an immediate upgrade over Jamar Adams and will fit right in next to Jordan Babineaux. Join me in the chat room for the 1st round discussion here: NFL Draft Chat

9:55
The Packers received an early gift with Bryan Bulaga at 23rd overall. Aaron Rodgers and Ryan Grant must be pretty giddy at this point in the evening. Broncos also have a nice replacement for Brandon Marshall in Demaryius Thomas. Dez Bryant’s character issues might have caught up to him but, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Patriots take him with the next pick.

10:50
With the 1st round coming to a close, this was a fast and furious pace with lots of trading and quite a few surprises (mainly Jacksonville and Denver’s picks). Check Craig Davis, Greg Brosh and myself out tomorrow as we recap the 1st round on 2 Feet in Bounds.
