Prediction Time

09/07/2009 4:43 PM -  Ryan Brooks

With the kickoff of the 2009 NFL season only a couple days away and my dobber already in the dirt after a miserable trip to Arlington, Tx over the weekend, it is time to put up or shut up. I’m ready to release a few predictions for the season.  It will be interesting to see how it plays out and if my viewpoint was close to correct or not…

Fantasy MVP – Tom Brady – Brady comes back and dominates the league much like he did in ’07.

Best Fantasy RB – Adrian Peterson – no surprise here because he is by far the best in the league in a Non PPR league and will likely be the best in a PPR league this year because he will far outshine in TDs and yardage this year.

Best Fantasy WR – Randy Moss – with Brady being the best, so comes Mr. Moss.

Best Fantasy TE – Jason Witten – The Cowboys don’t have a lot of options from the receivers so Witten may catch 100 balls.

No real surpise with those picks, so let’s get to some sleepers…this is where you make your money in fantasy football.

RB – Leon Washington…Many are focused on Shonn Greene, but I think Washington will be much more involved in the offense and usually his TDs come from a long distance.

RB – Rashard Mendenhall…Coaches already have him splitting carries with Willie Parker and I think he is the much better fantasy back this season.

QB – Matt Hasselbeck…Yes, he is healthy and has TJ Houshyermama to catch passes, so expect him back in the top 10 QBs.

WR – Vincent Jackson…Not really a sleeper, but I can see him finishing as a top 5 WR this season. Hopefully you drafted him as a WR2 and get WR1 results.

WR – Desean Jackson – Same story with Desean…a WR2 in the draft with WR1 talent.

WR – Hakeem Nicks – The Giants seem to have about 10 WRs and none of them stick out. I think Nicks steps up and becomes the missing piece with Plaxico out for the count.

Best Rookie RB – Tough call here but I’ll take Beanie Wells because he will likely have the most touchdowns. Keep an eye on Knowshon Moreno and Donald Brown (especially after Addai gets hurt and you know he will).

Best Rookie WR – Hakeem Nicks hands down. I think Michael Crabtree is the most talented in the draft but he doesn’t seem to want to play football. Also keep an eye on Brian Robiskie.

Lastly…injuries will hamper your team because it always happens, so keep an eye on guys like Kevin Faulk and Peyton Hillis in PPR leagues. They are solid each game for several catches and usually injuries will allow them to be the sole ball carrier a few games each season.

Peace out…
