Ridiculously Early 2010 Fantasy Football Rankings

01/10/2010 4:15 PM -  Lane Rizzardini

I woke up in a cold sweat Tuesday. I  rushed to my computer to look at my fantasy teams and found to my dismay that, yes, the 2009 fantasy football season is indeed over. There are no more line ups to set, no more waiver moves to be made, no more championships to be won. It was a fulfilling season, as I saw the hours of exhaustive research and prognosticating come to fruition in the form of more than one league championship. And yet sitting at my computer staring at my now defunct rosters I had worked so tirelessly to assemble I found myself feeling empty. What will I do to fill the time spent pouring over box scores and watching highlights? What expert analysis will I read to help me procrastinate at work? Will images of Darrelle Revis shutting down my best wide receiver continue to haunt my nightmares? The season is over, and while playoff football is currently under way, I am still not yet willing to part with my most beloved hobby. So for those of you who feel as I do and simply cannot let go, here’s my way too early 2010 rankings, which will probably change a thousand times before the fantasy football season returns to us.

1. Chris Johnson – Pretty obvious.

2. Maurice Jones-Drew – Mojo over Purple Jesus? Yea, especially in PPR.

3. Adrian PetersonChiefs Bears Football

4. Ray Rice – Will Willis McGahee be back poaching TDs?

5. Michael Turner – Will hopefully bounce back ready to rack up TDs next season.

6. Andre Johnson

7. Jamaal Charles – Yea, I think he’s this good.

8. Steven Jackson – How he continues to put up 100 yard games with nine in the box I will never understand.

9. Frank Gore – Jimmy Raye, run-heavy or pass-heavy? Make up your mind.

10. Larry Fitzgerald – What happens if Warner retires?

11. Deangelo Williams – Top 10 talent, but so is Jonathan Stewart.

12. Ronnie Brown – Monitor knee surgery closely.

13. DeSean Jackson

14. Brandon Marshall – Guy cleaned out his locker, name plate and everything. He’s getting traded.

15. Rashard Mendenhall

16. Randy Moss – I know he’s flaky but c’mon, he’s a monster.

17. Cedric Benson

18. Reggie Wayne

19. Ryan Grant

20. Drew Brees

21. Aaron Rodgers – Can’t go wrong with Rodgers or Brees.

22. Vincent Jackson

23. Calvin Johnson

24. Beanie Wells – Is he the feature guy next season?

26. Peyton Manning – He literally calls the plays. Draft him.

27. Greg Jennings – Has to bounce back.

28. Miles Austin

29. Matt Forte – New offensive coaching staff coming

30. Pierre Thomas – Backfield situation needs to be sorted out.

31. Tom Brady

32. Knowshon Moreno – Hopefully he’ll get the full load.

34. Matt Schaub

35. Steve Smith (CAR) – See Greg Jennings

36. Phillip Rivers

38. Sidney Rice

39. Steve Slaton – What is this backfield situation going to look like.

40. Jonathan Stewart - Give this man a feature job, and he’s a top 10 back.

41. Marques Colston

42. Santonio Holmes

43. Hakeem Nicks

44. Joseph Addai

45. Dallas Clark – 100 receptions from a TE? That’s just stupid.

46. Chad OchoCinco

47. C.J. Spiller – Big talent, let’s see where he ends up.

48. Tony Romo

49. Marion Barber – I’m not so sure about his grasp on the starting job.

50. Ben Roethlisberger

51. Antonio Gates

52. LaDainian Tomlinson – Very shaky on this guy.

53. Brandon Jacobs – Same with this guy.

54. Percy Harvin – ROY honors hard to ignore. But what about those migranes?

55. Dwayne Bowe – If he’d just stop dropping the damn ball he’d be a stud.

56. Michael Crabtree – Imagine what he could do with an actual training camp under his belt.

57. Mike Sims-Walker

58. Steve Smith (NYG)

59. Justin Forsett -Mora Jr. wouldn’t give him the job, hopefully Carroll will.

60. Matt Ryan – Will hopefully bounce back well.

61. LeSean McCoy – B-West 2.0? Only training camp will tell.

62. Jermichael Finley – Rodgers’ favorite target at the end of the season.

63. Donovan McNabb

64. Eli Manning

65. Jerome Harrison – Mangini staying. Helps or hurts?

66. Vernon Davis

67. Hines Ward – Age may begin to become a factor.

68. Derrick Mason – See above.

69. Jay Cutler – Will they get a real receiver?

70. Jahvid Best – See Spiller.

71. Wes Welker – Added on here because of his ridiculous PPR value. Unclear how much of next season he’s going to miss. Julian Edelman anyone?

And finally, favorite quote from the BCS bowl season:

“It was the intensity of the dump that was the problem.” – Nick Saban

  1. Rick Bellovin says:

Jay Cutler does not belong on this list. And please get off of Beanie’s macadamias.

  2. finsfan99 says:

Cutler will rebound to be a top 10 qb book it. As for Wells he looks like a player. My only Problem he is a OSU product and most don’t do squat in the pros…

  3. Greg Brosh says:

i see cutler getting better as well. with the first-year “be our savior” season behind him, he should bounce back. give aromashodu the chance to start!!!!
