·         $5 million is a lot to pay a backup, but that’s what the Seahawks are doing by keeping Deion Branch. I am a huge fan of (Nasty) Nate Burleson, and no way does Branch overtake him on the depth chart. Heck, he’s going to have a hard time keeping rookie Deon Butler off the field.

·         I’ve read in more than a few places that Packers’ running back Ryan Grant is very average. Ignore fantasy production here; we’re talking actual football skills. If you are looking for a real gem late in your draft, take a chance on undrafted rookie Tyrell Sutton. He has a chance at returning kicks this season, and the depth behind Grant is very weak (Brandon Jackson, DeShawn Wynn).

·         I don’t like injuries, but I’m glad Pierre Thomas is banged up (“Questionable” in week one). He’s on my week one opponent’s team.

·         Eric Mangini still hasn’t named a starting quarterback!!! And you wonder why I constantly refer to him as “Evil”. Maybe he’s a swell guy off the field, but in terms of fantasy and real NFL football, he’s poison.

·         Last time I quipped about Michael Crabtree, I said he was bluffing about sitting out the season. Maybe I misread the signals here, but I certainly don’t buy the junk Deion Sanders is spewing. No way are teams trying to trade for this guy and willing to pay him more than his 10^th pick slot.

·         Over/Under: Josh Freeman will be named the Buccaneers starting QB by November 8. I predict the Bucs will have the first overall pick in the 2010 draft – their schedule is a nightmare. Every average opponent is a road game. The November 8^th date gives Freeman two weeks of practice time (bye week coming off a certain shellacking in London) to get ready for Green Bay.

By the way, I double-checked the correct spelling of “shellacking”, and one definition was “to thrash soundly”. That made me giggle. It’s going to be a very ugly 2009 season for the Buccaneers.

·         It took me this long, but I’m officially finished with running back Kevin Jones.

·         Breathe easy MJD owners.

·         I’m available for Offensive Coordinator duties if any team wants to give me a call. There seems to be a few openings lately.
