Below is a list of some names that Craig Davis and Mike Woellert think could be worth a shot on your roster. This list will be updated throughout the day Monday, just in time for waiver wire openings on Tuesday through Friday, depending on when your waivers process. If you have any specific questions about possible waiver wire players, please contact one of our staff members (craig@fantasyfootball.com or mike@fantasyfootball.com).
ALSO KEEP IN MIND… AS WE GET FURTHER ALONG IN THE SEASON, THE WAIVER WIRE PICKUPS ARE GOING TO SLIM DOWN…
Quarterbacks
John Skelton (Arizona) — Kevin Kolb might not play the rest of the season, so Skelton is definitely worth looking at. In fact, it will give the Cardinals a chance to see how big of a mistake they made by trading with the Philadelphia Eagles. All Skelton has done the last two weeks is win… and his winning could somehow sneak the Cardinals into the playoffs.
FAAB bid: $4 out of $100
Kyle Orton (Kansas City) — Not only is Orton likely going to finish out the season, the Chiefs are seriously considering him as a possible replacement for Matt Cassel next year. Cassel requires a LOT more money than Orton and might not even give them the same production.
FAAB bid: $10 out of $100
Jake Locker (Tennessee) — Matt Hasselbeck might not take another snap in Tennessee… ever. Locker is a fine replacement.
FAAB bid: $10 out of $100
Running Backs
Evan Royster (Washington) — This just gets tougher and tougher because most of the team’s RBs have been used. There aren’t many players we haven’t heard of. Royster, however, is one of those guys who might be a sneaky start with Helu suffering numerous injuries. You might also consider Albert Young who, although he didn’t get as many carries, did get a short TD run.
FAAB bid: $3 out of $100 (Royster) $2 out of $100 (Young)
Sammie Morris (Dallas) — We all know Felix Jones can’t carry the workload all by himself, and after Murray went down and Choice was waived, the Cowboys were left with nothing else. Morris was acquired and made an immediate impact (12-53-0).
Donald Brown (Indy) — I seriously doubt he’s available, but he’s clearly the #1 RB in Indy and there’s no one who can push him for that job. Joseph Addai is washed up and Delone Carter has fumble problems.
FAAB bid: $15 out of $100
Wide Receivers
Jeremy Kerley (NY Jets) — He’s healthy again and taking a lot of Plaxico Burress’s targets. He also returns kicks.
FAAB bid: $3 out of $100
Darrius Heyward-Bey (Oakland) — Monster day for DHB and he seems to be the only healthy receiver in Oakland.
FAAB: $5 out of $100
Lavelle Hawkins (Tennessee) — With Nate Washington hurting and Jake Locker now cemented as the starter at QB, Hawkins actually has a chance to reproduce his numbers from Week 15. Jacksonville is up next.
Tight End
Todd Heap (Arizona) — You see what happens when he’s fully healthy?
FAAB bid: $2 out of $100
Brent Celek (Philly) — I still get a ton of questions every week from members who tell me “Should I pick up Celek”… so I know he’s still on a lot of wires. 5 catches for 156 yards and a TD is hard to ignore.
FAAB bid: $2 out of $100
Jared Cook (Tennessee) — He probably won’t start for you, but he’s worth looking at after his 9-catch/103-yard performance.
FAAB bid: $2 out of $100
