Week 11 Chop Blocks

11/23/2009 7:45 PM -  Mike Woellert

The dust is about to settle on week 11 as we head into the Monday Night game against the Texans and the Titans.  Week 11 featured some strange performances by some unsuspecting players.  Here’s some quick observations from around the league:

-Where did Brady Quinn get his arm from?  He actually threw some deep bombs.  Of course, I attribute that to the fact that he did play the Lions.  You do not need to rush to the wire to pick him up

-I’m also not convinced that the Lions are an offensive juggernaut either.  Megatron beat the bracket coverage schemes that the Browns tried to employ but, it didn’t work so well

-Kevin Smith also enjoyed the best game of the 2009 season also

-Wes Welker turned in a monster performance for PPR leaguers.  The 15 receptions definitely made up for the fact that he didn’t score (the 192 yards didn’t hurt either)

-Jamaal Charles turned in a nice performance against the upset win against the Steelers with two total scores

-Gary Brackett had an impressive pick against the Ravens as he tricked Joe Flacco into thinking he was going to sack him but dropped into coverage and made the game ending pick

-Dallas Clark’s TD catch was as impressive a catch as I’ve seen (especially from a TE)

-Steven Jackson now has 5 consecutive 1,000 yard rushing seasons.  He also has a TD in 3 straight games for the inept Rams’ offense

-I really expected a better game from Frank Gore but, the 49′ers had to abandon the run to catch up to the Packers

-Quick question….which NFL QB has a 21 TD/3 INT ration and is highest rated QB in the NFL?  Yup, it’s Brett Favre. Who would have thought that Favre would be under single digit picks this late in the season?

-Very impressive game from Jason Snelling.  Looks like he can handle the workload of an everydown back.  28 total touches is quite the workload

-Tough loss for the Bengals.  That should drop them from the power rankings with that loss

-I definitely did not project a huge performance from underperformers, Terrell Owens and Greg Jennings.  They showed no signs of turning anything around up till this week

-Huge game from James Laurinaitis against the Cardinals (notching 16 total tackles).  He must have been fired up from the beat down that OSU handed to that cespool up north

-I’m already looking forward to next week’s MNF game with the Saints and the Pats

-Looks like Mike Bell has taken the goal-line carry duties for the Saints as he found the endzone twice against the lowly Bucs

-I really can’t stand Robert Meachem.  2 measly receptions for 10 yards….but 2 scores

-I’ve never seen a WR totally screw himself over in a contract year than Braylon Edwards.  Since the trade to the Jets, he’s been held to one catch twice and has yet to go over the 100 yard mark.  It looks like 2007 was the exception and not the rule

-Looks like Matt Stafford might be missing the Turkey Day game after his gutsy performance in week 11

-Keep an eye on the injury report but, Brandon Jacobs is not on it for this week as of yet

-Pittsburgh expects Ben Roethlisberger to be fine after suffering a head injury in week 11.  Jeff Garcia was in town, however, just in case

-Looks like Ladell Betts will miss the remainder of the season after being put on IR today.  Yup, that means Rock Cartwright looks to be next in line.  Clinton Portis has already been ruled out for week 12

-Sydney Rice’s huge season continues as he added another 2 scores to his total.  His value next season will definitely be contingent on Brett Favre’s return

-Another 15 total tackles for David Hawthorne for the Seahawks

-Even though he only averaged 3.6 YPC, I liked what I saw from Chris Jennings of the Cleveland Browns this past week

-Bernard Scott had a very impressive starting debut for the Bengals.  Of course, it was the Raiders so not too bad of a match-up

-The same can’t be said for Justin Forsett’s start against the Vikings.  He was up against it with that match-up.  Add in the fact that the ‘Hawks found themselves down early, he didn’t factor into the game much (even with his TD)

-Huge game for Tyvon Branch as continues to assert himself as the top DB in IDP leagues

-Lastly, I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving Holiday!!!
