David Hawthorne gets my vote for IDP waiver wire pick-up of 2009 and it’s guys like that, that can have a huge impact for your IDP squad. The work is still far from over as we head down the home stretch of the fantasy regular season. So, keep up with the injuries and the guys that are underperforming and here’s a look at a few guys that can help your team:
Defensive Linemen
1. Ray Edwards (MIN)
2. William Hayes (TEN)
3. Tommy Kelly (OAK)
4. Juqua Parker (PHI)
5. Aubrayo Franklin (SFO)
Ray Edwards has been a monster on the Minnesota line as offensive lines key in on Jared Allen. Edwards in the past 2 weeks, has registed 4 sacks and 8 solo tackles. He’s also been in on a forced fumble and recovery. I like Edwards as DE2 moving forward, especially over underperformers like Kyle Vanden Bosch and Cliff Avril (just to name a few). William Hayes has stepped up for Tennessee recently and has made KVB an after-thought. He’s registered 2.5 sacks, 11 total tackles and 2 forced fumbles over the last 3 weeks. He makes a decent DE if you need some depth on your team. Tommy Kelly has been a very consistent DT this season and has been as good as any DE. In most tackle heavy leagues, he’s ranked within the top 20 and makes a good add; he should be rostered in leagues that use a DT spot. Juqua Parker has 5 solo tackles and 2 sacks in the last 2 weeks but, he’s not worth adding at the expense of someone like Trent Cole, Mario Williams or Osi Umenyiora. However, he’s worth a look at in deeper leagues if you need the depth or need to cut bait on an underachiever. Aubrayo Franklin has had a solid 3 week stretch, especially for those in big play leagues. He’s registered a sack, INT and 11 total tackles in that span and makes a good addition in those leagues that use a DT spot.
Linebackers
1. Brian Orakpo (WAS)
2. David Bowens (CLE)
3. Channing Crowder (MIA)
4. Corey Mays (KCC)
5. Larry Foote (DET)
Brian Orakpo is making a push for defensive rookie of the year, as he’s registered 3.5 sackes in the past 2 weeks to bring his total to 7 and has registered 10 total tackles in that span. He’s looking like the top pick that most thought he’d be. David Bowens had a huge game on MNF and with the defense seeing a lot of the field, his opportunities are growing. Channing Crowder returned to the starting lineup in week 10 and made a huge impact by registering 9 solo tackles and a sack. He looks to be regaining his form that made him a top 25-30 LB pick at the beginning of the season. Corey Mays and Larry Foote are worthy of adds in deeper leagues. Foote has a really nice match-up in week 11 against the Browns and could be one of those weekly guys that puts up a huge game against a weaker opponent.
Defensive Backs
1. Dawan Landry (BAL)
2. Reed Doughty (WAS)
3. Tracy Porter (NOS)
4. Chris Johnson (OAK)
5. Chris Gamble (CAR)
Dawan Landry and Reed Doughty are young safeties that are putting up nice numbers. Doughty has 16 total tackles in the last 2 weeks. Landry has 13 total tackles and a pick over the last 2 weeks and makes a decent addition as the defense looks to be stepping up. Tracy Porter, Chris Johnson and Chris Gamble make nice roster additions in deeper leagues or leagues that require a CB spot.
