Well, we’re headed into week 10 and the last of the byes are scheduled (Houston and the New York Giants). This also marks the beginning of Thursday Night Football (for those with the NFL Network). San Francisco and Chicago will begin the ceremonies. Through week 10, your waiver wire will consist of the lowest of the low but, here are some names to look out for as you scour for anything:
Running Backs
1. Ladell Betts (WAS)
2. Rashad Jennings (JAC)
3. Ahman Green (GBP)
4. Kolby Smith (KCC)
5. Justin Griffith/Justin Forsett (SEA)
Ladell Betts should be grabbed in all leagues (whether or not you’re a Clinton Portis owner). Portis went down in week 9 with a concussion. Portis is already listed as doubtful, so if you need a back for week 10, Betts is the guy to plug into the lineup. I know he’s facing Denver but, he’s a starting running back getting touches. Rashad Jennings had only 3 touches but the made the most of them. At this point, Jennings makes a nice hand-cuff to Maurice Jones-Drew owners just in case he should break down at some point in the season. Ahman Green didn’t look too bad in week 9 against the Buccaneers. He received only 7 touches but had a nice 7.5 YPC average (yes, I know it was the Bucs). He’s definitely Ryan Grant’s hand-cuff at this point. Kolby Smith could be in line for goal-line work, so he makes a sneaky add in TD only leagues and should be picked up as Jamaal Charles’s hand-cuff. I’ve listed Justin Forsett here before and Justin Griffith should be looked at in PPR leagues. They should only be considered as hand-cuffs for Julius Jones or looked at in deeper leagues.
Wide Receivers
1. Robert Meachem (NOS)
2. Chris Chambers (KCC)
3. Jacoby Jones (HOU)
4. Jason Hill (SFO)
5. Greg Camarillo (MIA)
Robert Meachem appeared in week 9 and delivered a solid performance with 5 catches for 98 yards and a score but, may not appear again (be warned). He was targeted 6 times but, is still considered raw and an inconsistent bet for production. If you’ve been hit by injuries, he’s worthy an add in deeper leagues and worth a look at in 12-team leagues. Chris Chambers came out of nowhere and scored twice for the Chiefs in his first week of work. I’m not going to say he’s a WR3 going forward but, he’s definitely worth keeping an eye on as a WR2 alongside Dwayne Bowe. Jacoby Jones had a solid day in being targeted 5 times. He’s worthy of a look in deeper leagues that require 3 WR. Jason Hill has surpassed Josh Morgan as a starter and converted his 4 targets to 4 catches. Him, Vernon Davis and Michael Crabtree look nice a trio for the future, if Alex Smith can minimize turnovers. Greg Camarillo is worthy of a look in PPR leagues if depth is needed. He made one hell of a catch at the end of the Patriots game.
