Well, now that Gary Kubiak has officially gone Shanahan and installing an RBBC in Houston, now’s the time to comb the wire for that all elusive, golden ticket for the rest of the season. Here are some names to look out for on your league’s wire as we head into week 9:
Running Backs
1. Ryan Moats (HOU)
2. Maurice Morris (DET)
3. Leonard Weaver (PHI)
4. Garrett Wolfe (CHI)
5. John Kuhn (GBP)
Ryan Moats will be this week’s hot free agent pickup. Kubiak as already said that all 3 running backs that he has (Slaton, Brown, Moats) will play and, will he’ll likley play the hot hand (which is Moats right now). Slaton has had trouble with fumbling, which has led to Moats getting more PT. Maurice Morris looks to be getting more playing time right now too, as Smith went down with an injured shoulder. Morris should be picked up in all leagues at this point and is a solid backup. Leonard Weaver and Garrett Wolfe are more handcuffs for their respective starters at this point. Weaver should carried as either a Westbrook or McCoy handcuff in case any misses any time. Westbrook, however, should be back in practice this week. John Kuhn is a sneaky pickup in TD only leagues or PPR leagues but, really shouldn’t be counted on for any real production (unless something happens to Ryn Grant).
Wide Receivers
1. Malcom Floyd (SDC)
2. Deion Branch (SEA)
3. Sam Hurd (DAL)
4. Isaac Bruce (SFO)
5. David Anderson (HOU)
Malcom Floyd will be the beneficiary of the Chris Chambers release. He’s starting to get some consistent targets from Rivers and could be a sneaky WR add down the stretch if you have some injury issues. Deion Branch is going to be too inconsistent but, if he can get some targets from Hasselbeck, he could be another one of those difference maker receivers that comes out of nowhere. He has the talent but has been too injury riddled to establish any type of consistency. He makes a worthy flier but, don’t put him in your starting lineup just yet. Sam Hurd might also see more targets as defenses are starting to key in on Miles Austin. He only had 1 in week 8 but he turned it into a 36 yard TD. He’s someone to add in deeper leagues but, monitor in 12-team leagues. Issac Bruce and Alex Smith look to have some chemistry in the Bay. Smith targeted Bruce 8 times and hauled in 4 passes for 51 yards. He’s definitely someone worth monitoring in 12- to 14-team leagues. David Anderson could also see more targets and playing time in the wake of the Owen Daniels injury.
